Sorry for the poor quality.
What does Iris believe in?
“I believe in three things which are hard work, consistency and patience. Being a first-generation hockey player in my family had to earn everything and settling for less was not an option. You have to enjoy the game. Working hard and being consistent is what's important to me. Becoming an elite-level goalie requires focusing on details and being consistent with repetition. In addition, it takes a lot of mental work. If you have a strong mind you will be a strong goalie. It is important to learn from them and use your lessons to grow and become better. With this mindset, you can never lose because either you win, or you learn. Goaltending is an art and it is not something you can perfect overnight so being patient is very key. If you look back at the history of goalie tending and how it has evolved to what it is now; that process took time and so will developing your game. Knowing I can always get better is something I live for because it means there are endless possibilities.”
What motivates Iris?
“I am a very self-motivated individual and my motivation stems from a pretty simple belief system. I only invest my time and energy into things that I love to do for myself. Not what other people want me to do. The only reason I was able to wake up at 5am for practice or hit the gym after school or practices was the passion for success and the drive inside me to become the best goalie I can be simply because I love the game and the position. There were some rough days, especially after being cut from teams and dealing with injuries but overcoming those roadblocks and battling by pushing through makes you a stronger athlete. I believe in setting goals and writing them down. Having short-term and long-term goals is an important step in creating success. Most importantly I enjoyed the process as much as the end destination I wanted to reach.
